So after much back and forth if I wanted to go with a 70-200mm or a longer lens I landed on the Sony FE 100-400mm GM. It's not an easy choice when you're spending about $2500 on a lens that may not be used quite often. In my past experiences, the long lens was definitely neglected. But when you don't have it you always want it, Grass is always greener I suppose!
I battled the idea of having a faster lens like the 2.8 vs 4.5/5.6 but I knew I wouldn't really be needing that fast of speed unless I was shooting sports or some sort of fast-paced action. So you're left with the cheaper version of the 70-200 or the 100-400 GM. I have all G Master lenses and they perform so well, I don't see why it was time to stray away. Plus this has one feature I've never seen before. It has a little window in the lens hood to control your ND or CP filters. Pretty awesome idea! Overall pretty happy with the purchase but time will tell! But paired with the Sony A7R IV body I use it might be a killer way to add some diversity to my work.
As I am writing this, I do have to say I haven't gotten to test it much, but so far around the house, I can notice the AF is quite fast! Eye detection for people and animals works well. And produces some pretty beautiful images. This post is more of a preview, and ill be back with a full review soon once I hit the road again.
